How to Build a Relaxing Bath Ritual at Home

How to Build a Relaxing Bath Ritual at Home

A bath can be so much more than a quick rinse. Here's how to turn it into a genuine ritual that restores your body and mind.

Why a Bath Ritual Works

There's real science behind why a warm bath helps you unwind. Soaking in warm water raises your core body temperature, and the subsequent cool-down signals your body to produce melatonin — making it one of the most effective natural sleep aids available. Add in therapeutic botanicals and aromatherapy, and you've got a full sensory reset.

The key difference between a bath and a ritual is intention. A ritual is something you prepare for, something that signals to your nervous system: it's time to slow down.

Step 1: Set the Scene

Before you even turn on the tap, prepare your space:

Step 2: Draw the Perfect Bath

Water temperature matters. Too hot can stress the cardiovascular system — aim for warm to comfortably hot, around 100–104°F. Then add your botanicals:

  • Herbal Bath Salts — our blends combine Epsom salt, essential oils, and dried botanicals for muscle relief, relaxation, or an energy boost. Choose your blend based on your mood: Serenity, Revive, or Relax.
  • The Epsom salt provides magnesium, which absorbs transdermally and helps ease muscle tension
  • The dried herbs and flowers make the experience feel genuinely luxurious

Step 3: Soak Intentionally (20–30 Minutes)

This is the part most people rush. Give yourself at least 20 minutes — that's how long it takes for the magnesium and botanicals to do their work and for your nervous system to genuinely downshift.

Use this time to:

  • Practice slow, deep breathing
  • Do a body scan — notice where you're holding tension and consciously release it
  • Journal, read, or simply be still

Step 4: Support Your Body After

What you do after the bath matters as much as the bath itself:

  • Pat skin dry gently — don't rub
  • Apply a nourishing body butter while skin is still slightly damp for maximum absorption. Our Vanilla Tallow Butter or Unscented Tallow Butter are ideal — deeply hydrating and fast-absorbing
  • If sleep is the goal, apply our Magnesium Spray to your legs and feet — it supports muscle relaxation and deeper sleep
  • Brew a cup of Sleepy Time Herbal Tea and wind down for 30 minutes before bed

Make It a Weekly Practice

The benefits of a bath ritual compound over time. Once a week is a great starting point — enough to look forward to, not so frequent it becomes a chore. Block it in your calendar like any other appointment. You deserve it.
